VOTE: LC Bird’s Student-Athlete of the Month for January

Below is a list of our Student-Athlete’s outstanding accomplishments during the month of January.  Please vote below for the candidate who you feel is most deserving as  LC Bird Student-Athlete of the Month.  Deadline to vote is midnight on Sunday, February 12, 2017.

Brina Bentley: Girls Basketball, Sr/Forward

Brina has a 3.4 GPA. Brina played an important defensive role in the victory against IC Norcom and 5th ranked Trinity. Brina, an undersized post player gave up 4 inches as she defended their Trinity’s post holding them to under 16pts.  Her stats for the month of January are as follows: 10 points/game, 7 rebounds/game, 2 steals/game

Pinky Wiley: Boys Basketball

Wiley, a senior, has averaged 14 points/game, 9.6 assists/game, 5.2 rebounds/game and 4.4 steals/game during the month of January.  He also has received athletic scholarship offers from Virginia Union University, Longwood University and Lincoln University in Pennsylvania to continue playing basketball in college.

Kurtis Anderson: Wrestling

Kurtis Anderson, sophomore, is a standout leader on the mat as well as off. The coaches rely on him to take over the team at any given time and accomplish all needed tasks. He has an overall record of 21-8, finishing 8th at the Woodbridge tournament, 3rd at the King of Kings tournament in Charlotte NC, 1st at the Henrico Invitational, and 2nd at Conference Finals, only losing to the reigning State Champion. He is a role model to younger youth, volunteering with the Boy Scouts for the past 5 years. Kurtis is currently a Life Scout working towards earning his Eagle Scout rank. Kurtis is a standout student currently enrolled in the Engineering program and holds a 3.8 GPA, one of the highest among his peers.

Josiah Hill: Boys Indoor Track

Sophomore, Josiah Hill is an honor roll student as well as the 2017 indoor conference 12 athlete of the meet. He has been named all-state twice in outdoor track 2016 and is currently ranked 2nd in the state in the 500 meter dash and 8th in the 300 meters. He is also a member of the engineering program.

L’nay Carpenter: Girls Indoor Track

Freshman, L’nya Carpenter is the 2017 indoor conference field event athlete of the meet. She is currently ranked in the state in the long and triple jump and is the Conference 122 champion in both events.  She is currently leading the lady sky-hawks in more than 4 events this indoor season.
Samuel Taylor: Swim
Sophomore, Taylor is a sophomore and is swimming for his second year.  Samuel is a valuable member of our swim team, who always swims the toughest events without a complaint.  At the swim meet against Thomas Dale, Samuel placed first in the 500m free with a blistering time of 5:40.22 and second in the 200m free.  Samuel is an active member of the boys relay teams and swam his heart out in a close second place to Midlothian’s 200 medley relay team.  Samuel always congratulates the swimmers around him after each race and is always on deck cheering on his teammates during their events.

Raiya Hicks: Winter Cheer

Raiya Hicks is an outstanding athlete! She has a radiant smile and gives 100% effort on the sideline and center court during halftime performances!
