Hard work is no stranger to Bird’s JV Girls Basketball team.
Lead by a hard working coach, Adiva McKensie, the girls JV basketball team has nine outstanding players. The girls had a great season and they reached a record of 8-14.
Coach McKensie said her main goals were to help develop her girls and make them overall better basketball players by the end of the season. This was a goal that was met by all nine.
McKensie encouraged the Bird squad, all season, to play hard and play with their hearts. The biggest challenge the girls faced was turnovers and taking care of the ball on offense. The coach’s proudest moment was when the girls played Prince George because they were against girls that were much bigger than them, but were not intimated.
Coach McKensie said the most outstanding players were Juanita James, Jasmine James, and Ashley Johnston. The most stand out games the girls faced were against Prince George and Highland Springs. Ashley Johnston was the most improved player on the team and received special recognition.
Overall, Coach McKensie says her main goal for the next season is for the girls to increase in knowledge, ball handling, and overall skill level to prepare them for varsity.
