The L.C Bird swimming team, coached by Kimberly Bliley, is starting to gain recognition. The swimming team had a better performance than last year. “There were so many small moments throughout the season to be proud of,” said coach Bliley.
With 14 swimmers, everyone wanted to stand out and prove that Bird is, yet again, the school of winners. Coach Bliley stated that their goals were: “to swim the best at every meet.”
“Each of the swimmers stood out in their own ways,” she commented.
Ana Orellana earned the coaches award. She began the year as a new swimmer and she had to learn the techniques for everything. Additionally, Colby Mills earned the most valuable swimmer award.
In addition, she wanted every swimmer to try different events they typically don’t do to improve their portfolio of skills. With so many of the swimmers standing out at Champs, a tournament, it made Coach Bliley so proud to see how far her little intermediate group of “swim warriors” had come.
“Every swimmer on the team earned best times and represented Bird with an incredible amount of sportsmanship,” said Coach Bliley.
Kimberly Bliley hopes that the team grows, moving from a club team to VHSL next year, which should definitely help swimming gain the recognition and notoriety it definitely deserves!
