Game Recap

On a night much more conducive for football than the sweltering heat of August or the monsoon of last Friday night, the Lloyd C. Bird Skyhawks kicked off the home portion of their schedule with a convincing 40 – 0 victory over the visiting Trojans of Midlothian at Dutchman Field.

Midlothian won the toss and received. The Bird defense set the tone early by forcing a punt. Bird took over on their own 39 and moved the ball behind the strong running of C. J. Donaldson, who scored the first of his three touchdowns from 15 yards out to culminate a 61 yard drive. After another Midlothian punt, Marcus Banks hit Jemourei La Pierre for a 67 yard scoring strike and at the end of the first quarter, the Skyhawks led 14 – 0, a lead that they would not surrender.

The second quarter saw more of the same, first with Banks hooking up with La Pierre again, this time from 26 yards out and then C. J. Donaldson electrified the crowd with a 77 yard touchdown run to finish off the first half scoring.

The scoring, however, was not over as Donaldson scored his third touchdown from 11 yards out after a drive that was beset with Skyhawk penalties. The defense played with a chip on their shoulders and this, unfortunately, resulted in numerous penalties that resulted in the greatest number of yards gained by Midlothian.

The fourth quarter saw the final scoring play when Banks hooked up with Jamon Battle for 28 yards and the touchdown. The defense continued to shut down the Trojans, except for the penalties. They did rise to the occasion when their backs where against the goal line and kept Midlothian out of the end zone.

C. J. Donaldson ended the night with 260 yards on 19 carries and 3 touchdowns, Marcus pass went 6 for 8 passing for 153 yards on three touchdown passes and had 91 yards rushing on 8 carries. On the defensive side of the ball, DaMontre Blowe had 9 tackles to lead all Skyhawk defenders.
